I have had a long journey with food throughout my life. Starting to eat a palleo style diet when I was about 19 in order to try and compete in a fitness physique competition, which I dropped out of because it started to mess with my head. I Eat Clean Monday to Friday, no carbs after 3pm, lots of chicken and meat. I drink all the wrong things. Tequila, white wine, TEQUILA. I Finally competed last year, I used to chew my fish into small bits and then wash it down with water because I was so over eating fish. I have always considered myself to be rather healthy. I recently went travelling for 6 weeks in three months and lets just say that right now my booty looks a little like the moon — eating all the wrong foods & realising that beer is rather delicious. I’ve been there, done that, lost weight, gained weight, been ripped up to the max – Got the T-shirt.
We live in a society that has become so obsessed with our outer appearances. Okes taking more shit and protein than you can imagine. Don’t worry I have been there and done that too. The fat burners, supplements, always some new pill or shake on the market. We are so obsessed with ourselves — we see it all over Social Media on a daily basis. Selfies, more selfies… And I believe the only reason why people take selfies is to get approval from others and it gives people a sense of worth when people “ like “ or comment on their pictures. How sad that we now have to depend on others to make ourselves feel beautiful.

It is said that when one becomes more conscious, not only do we become conscious in the mind, we also become one with the world around us. I have been on a path of awakening for the past 3 years and I have been asking many questions. I have learnt a lot about life & its complexities. It has been a hard but beautiful, rewarding journey.
I too have friends who are going on a journey of their own. I met up with Romey, a beautiful soul and good friend of mine, to enquire and to open up my mind towards food.
I arrived at Romey’s house and I was greeted with a perfectly prepared afternoon cup of tea. Organic Vanilla and Cinnamon tea infused with raw water buffalo honey (the raw buffalo helps with ulcers and sore stomachs) mixed with some pure co-coconut water and Natural Milk, yes for the first time in my life I drank REAL milk. Not pasteurized, not homogenised ( meaning that the nutrients & vitamins are depleted from the heating process ) Those words mean – Your Milk’s NOT REAL and all the goodness has been stripped out of it. DRINK REAL MILK, IT’S GOOD FOR YOU and IT WILL NOT MAKE YOU FAT. The tea was flavoursome and I could feel the nutrients flowing into my body.
Romey has a different outlook on food than most. She does not call herself a dietician but rather a nutrition specialist; not educating people on diets but rather on eating plans for life. A way of life that ensures that the way you live & what you consume is sustainable, worthy, healthy and earthly. This way of life adds value to your journey and helps you connect with yourself as we have forgotten to do.
Many years have passed and slowly but surely we have forgotten our roots, where we came from as human beings. We have been told so many things that are not true, not healthy and detrimental to our health and wellbeing. We believe anything anyone ever says. We think there is always some miracle cure. We Follow ‘Fad Diets’. We do it ALL. Without even applying the basic principals of nature and life. We are human beings – look around you, what has always been around us since the beginning of time? Since the earth was created, even before human beings – plants. Plants, get their natural energy source from the sun, the most powerful of all energies. Complete and perfect in its natural form. We have lost out connection to ourselves. To Mother Earth.
The more synthetic we become, worrying about our outer appearances and in order to reach perfection or what we ‘believe’ to be perfect, we fill our bodies with more synthetic products, shit food and supplements that are destroying our body’s natural processes, shutting down receptors and doing long term damage.
Nowadays everyone is allergic to wheat and gluten. NO SHIT SHERLOCK. Because wheat and gluten are MAN MADE. Yes – in case you didn’t know, we created that stuff, no wonder our bodies are rejecting it.
What’s so awesome about Romey is that she is not a vegan – she calls herself a ‘Flexiterian’ (A semi-vegetarian or flexitarian diet is one that is plant-based with the occasional inclusion of meat products. – Wikipedia
If Romey eats meat she buys it from Organic Butchers. If she eats meet at a restaurant she will ask who the suppliers are to see if they are organic. She is making a conscious decision about what she puts into her body and about the impact it has on the earth. Whichever hormones have been used on those animals are going into your body, additional hormones that you did not need in the first place.
We are slowly but surely becoming a zombie nation, popping a magic pill for every ache and pain. Being told we are crazy or depressed and getting put on pills that cut us off from not only the world around us but from ourselves. Pharmaceutical companies are making billions of Dollars off of us, passing acts that state you need a script for homeopathic medicine, so that they can keep you on the ‘magicmuti’ to keep you hooked and paying. We have forgotten that we can heal ourselves.
Thinking we can all follow one diet like Tim JOKES and get thin. Romey explains that everyone is different and what works for you may not work for someone else and vice versa. Noakes’ diet worked for him and he is taking what worked for him and telling everyone it will work for them too and when it doesn’t and people aren’t losing weight because they eat to much dairy and dairy doesn’t agree with them, he then changes his mind and takes certain elements off list. That’s what works for him doesn’t necessarily work for everyone else and people need to understand this. We are all unique and individual and need to find what works for us.

However, the times are changing. Slowly but surely people are waking up. Health stores are popping up all over the country, Juicing (the healthy type ) companies are delivering their weekly packages of earthly goodness to peoples homes around the country. More and more people are starting to make a conscious decision about what they are consuming and putting into their bodies.
We are realizing slowly that ‘they’ lied. You CAN heal yourself. Everyday people around the world are curing themselves from diseases and cancers. They are saying NO to the medical world and they are turning back to their roots. Through raw food, through nature, people are starting to realize the power of the earth and themselves. People are going WITHIN. We are slowly but surely starting to wake up to something we have known all along. We are starting to remember.
Romey see’s the power in raw & super foods. She has suffered from acne her whole life and has tried every MIRACLE cure. She too decided to give it a go. To stop putting all that shit into her body. She started to put goodness into her body and it showed on the outside. Romey has cured her skin problems. She has a beautiful radiance that comes from within and her skin and hair are glowing. Her body is in harmony with her mind and soul and it shows.
I asked Romey some questions on her new life-style. You eat from as close to the earth as possible. If you are going to eat meat, ensure it’s organic. There are many organic restaurants and shops where you can buy amazing organic products.
Read the back of food labels, I bet you on most labels there are at least 3 names you cannot pronounce.
So what does this new life entail?
In the morning Romey wakes up and drinks 500ml of water – we become dehydrated when we sleep due to the fact that our bodies use up energy whilst sleeping.
Some days she enjoys a green smoothie. I can speak from experience that this is one thing that will change your life because you get your daily intake of minerals and goodness in one glass of goodness. Any green vegetables.
Everyday Romey’s morning begins with a SuperFoods juice.

Handful of soaked Almonds (soaked in cold water for 4 – 5 hours and then sieved)

My point of view on food has changed drastically. From eating dried chicken breasts and broccoli to wanting to eat raw, fresh earthly foods and start feeling awesome on the inside.
Today I made my own lunch – it consisted of Quinoa, Avo, Tomatoe and organic feta. It is the first time I have tasted Quinoa and it was one of the most delicious things I have ever tasted, I’m all about texture in food and it literally pops in your mouth.
The Nutritional Value of Quinoa: Quinoa grain has been called a superfood. Protein content is very high for a cereal/pseudo-cereal (14% by mass), but not as high as most beans and legumes. The protein content per 100 calories is higher than brown rice, potatoes, barley and millet, but is less than wild rice and oats. Nutritional evaluations indicate that quinoa is a source of complete protein. Other sources claim its protein is not complete but relatively high in essential amino acids. The grain is a good source of dietary fiber and phosphorus and is high in magnesium and iron. It is a source of calcium, and thus is useful for vegans and those who are lactose intolerant. It is gluten-free and considered easy to digest. My opinion on food has changed drastically along my jouney and I am eager to learn. I’m not saying that I am never going to eat a steak again but I do know that I am going to fill my body with what it needs. Fill it with lifely energy from mother earth.
I am starting to wake up. I am so excited to learn. Today I bought my first selection of Superfoods and can’t wait to make my first smoothie.
